U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is the first Hispanic justice to ever hold the position and she was appointed by President Obama. She lived her young life broke in New York City and has followed a rather inspiring rags to riches path to glory. She also believes that the calling illegal aliens ‘criminals’ is an insult. Sotomayor has also been moving to change the term ‘illegal aliens’ to something less demeaning to something in the vein of “undocumented immigrants.”

While Sonia Sotomayor is not arguing the illegality of undocumented immigrants she is calling in to question the rhetoric that creates a monster out of a person simply fleeing and trying to find a better life. She states, “I think people then paint those individuals as something less than worthy human beings and it changes the conversation.”

Sonia Sotomayor has long been in the liberal spotlight, since her appointment by President Barack Obama, and statements like this will further increase her shine with the Democratic base. This sort of attitude, sympathizing with what appears to be a huge domestic issue, will further estrange her from the conservative and Republican demographic. Many want a harsher line on illegal immigrants in America.
